Ryan Ling is a Hong Kong-born aspiring Director/Editor/Assistant Editor now based in London. After moving to the UK for high school, he discovered his passion for storytelling during university, writing and directing stage plays such as “Crepuscule”, “Nostalgia”, and “Ephesians”, which were showcased at Nottingham Art Theatre between 2017 and 2019.
Ryan has developed to become a freelance editor with a strong background in short films. With a Master’s in Filmmaking from the London Film School, he brings a passion for storytelling through editing, creating impactful narratives across various genres.
Ryan has edited several award-winning short films, including “Broken Hearts”, which won the Brighton Rocks Film Festival and was featured in Oscar-qualifying festivals such as Alcine and Indy Shorts. “The Farm” was selected for the prestigious Aesthetica Short Film Festival and Bolton Film Festival, both BAFTA and BIFA qualifying events. Ryan also edited “Divine Intervention”, which was selected for the BAFTA-qualifying Iris Prize LGBTQ+ Film Festival, with the selected films set to be screened on Channel 4.
Additionally, Ryan’s editing work, “ The Bull”, was selected for the Tallinn Black Nights International Film Festival (PÖFF Shorts) and the Leuven International Film Festival. Both festivals are Oscar, BAFTA, and European Film Awards qualifiers, further demonstrating Ryan's talent for crafting compelling narratives.
